HealthStar Home Health has some pretty impressive employees with an extraordinary range of skills and backgrounds. From our Nurses and Caregivers in client homes providing one-on-one care, to our team of administrative professionals working “behind the scenes” to make sure operations are running smoothly, HealthStar has quite the team focused on providing the best care possible to our clients.
Today we recognize Deanna Brewer, Talent Acquisition Specialist (aka: Recruiter) out of the Corporate office! Deanna is celebrating her 1 year anniversary at HealthStar in September. Deanna is the driving force behind finding the extraordinary nurses, administrative staff, and caregivers who make HealthStar the company it is today. But what is arguably her biggest accomplishment since starting at HealthStar? Befriending the #1 Corporate introvert (Hey, Kim 👋) She’ll never pass on an opportunity to talk hockey (Minnesota Wild, of course) and is most likely unofficially sponsored by Red Bull. This month we celebrate Deanna!
Q: What do you do at HealthStar? What does a typical day look like for you?
A: Talent Acquisition Specialist (fancy title for Recruiter). I am looking for the right candidate to fill our open positions. No two days are alike, I enjoy talking to candidates about HealthStar and discovering what they are looking for in their dream job. Some days I spend the majority of my day on the phone and other days I am posting positions, searching for candidates on LinkedIn/Indeed and love being involved in Employee Engagement (some of my coworkers may even say I annoy them a time or two/week too but hey that’s part of employment engagement, right?).
Q: Before working at HealthStar, what was the most interesting or unusual job you had?
A: For a very short time in my life I sold Kirby vacuums – yes the vacuum that costs over $1,000. I used to go into people’s homes, demonstrate the vacuum and then try to sell it. It was not my favorite job but surprisingly I was actually pretty good at it so continued to work PT while in college.
Q: How has HealthStar helped in your career development?
A: HealthStar has made me realize that my plate doesn’t need to be overflowing to be successful. It is nice to focus on one street with a couple side streets and have the time/tools to get the job done.
Q: What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
A: I may or may not have a Harry Potter scar on my forehead – while people may know this about me, they are not allowed to see it (I have bangs for this very reason).
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not working?
A: I have 2 kids who are very involved in activities – my daughter dances 3 nights/week and my son can play hockey anywhere from 2 to 5 days/week so my husband and I are the designated taxi drivers. I do enjoy spending time with my husband when time allows and we are hockey obsessed (all but my daughter) so between cheering on my son, we also enjoy cheering on the Minnesota Wild.
Q: What is your motto or personal mantra?
A: Don’t go through life without goals (life without goals is like a race without a finish line – you’re running nowhere). #recruiter #hockeymom
Q: Tell me about the best day you’ve had working at HealthStar?
A: Oh man, I have had some great days but one that comes to mind was playing heads up during ‘Friday Fun’ and having tears of joy falling down my face from laughing so hard. We work hard but when we get the opportunity we play hard too.
Q: What do you like most about your job at HealthStar?
A: The people. I wouldn’t have an ounce of success if I didn’t have the amazing team I am fortunate to have here.
Q: What is something invaluable that you’ve learned working at HealthStar?
A: Feeling appreciated is not something you should take for granted.
Q: If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing (except money), what would it be and why?
A: Red Bull – first of all it is expensive and I drink at least 1/day so this would be a HUGE savings. 😉
A more practical answer would maybe be hockey equipment for the same reasoning as it is very expensive!
